The Linda. H. Hollister Swap Shop at the Durham Transfer Station is a volunteer powered community resource.
- Meet your neighbors
- Meet your friends
- Make new friends
- Most of all, do your part to reduce our need for landfill
It’s so easy to get started!
Our SignUp Genius page makes it easy to find a time that works for you.

To stay open and operate as well as it does, the Swap Shop requires upwards of 150 volunteer hours a month! You can keep this valuable community resource going by volunteering monthly, weekly, or every once in a while. See your neighbors and go home with some amazing finds.
Sign up for a “shadow” volunteer shift. You will be welcomed !!! and paired with a seasoned volunteer who will show you the ropes.
You can also email durhamnhswapshop@gmail.com for more information.
The Durham Swap Shop season starts in early April and ends in early December.
Please Volunteer Often
We are asking every volunteer to commit to at least 1 shift per month in order to remain on the official volunteer list and receive Swap Shop email updates.
Children Volunteers? Sorry, No.
The question was asked last year if minor children could volunteer at the Swap Shop (either with or without a parent working the same shift). After much research and many conversations, it was determined that volunteers must be 18 or older. We are always on the hunt for new active volunteers and our town’s youth seems like a great resource, but for liability reasons, the town legal counsel says NO.
If you have friends, neighbors or family who are Durham residents and want more information about volunteering, please let us know and we will contact them to answer any questions. As always, we are very grateful to the dedicated volunteers who repeatedly contribute their time, efforts and goodwill to the Durham Swap Shop. We look forward to seeing you all!
If you have any questions or concerns, please email durhamnhswapshop@gmail.com or contact a coordinator directly.
